Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
